Indian spices
Having moved to a new factory set in an industrial estate in central Kerala, Malabar has modern equipments and dedicated personnel for its operations. The factory operates adhering to strict quality control standards in hygienic conditions.

Here is a look at the various stages of our production.

Drying
Kerala receives twin monsoons and most of the spice crops come during or just after rains and they carry high percentage of moisture. For sustaining quality of spice and also for its shelf life, it is important that moisture content is carefully controlled in our products. We dry our spices during rains in our mechanical drier and during the dry season in our open yard under the sun. Lots are tested for moisture and processed accordingly.

Sorting
Our customers from different parts of the world have different preferences when it comes to size, shape and look of their product. To suit the requirements of each one of them, we sort the dried spices into different sizes and shape. The rejects, immature and rotten are sorted out either mechanically or manually. This process is done under strict supervision since we have been very particular about maintaining consistent quality all throughout our company’s long history.
It is also important to regulate the temperature while treating different spices as higher than permissible temperature damages the quality of product. This whole process is undertaken by our dedicated and experienced team of workers.

Grinding and Blending
We export our spices in whole as well as in powdered form and as masalas and seasonings. These seasonings are developed by our specialist taste designers differently for our customers from different parts of the world. Dried, sorted and cleaned spices are ground and blended in our grinding machines. Our insistence on quality ingredients and mixing in right proportion ensures freshness and authentic taste which has been the hallmark of our Nutri-Fresh quality. We also ensure that the process is run at controlled temperatures to maintain the aroma of our various spice powders and seasonings. Careful training is given to the staff running this unit to ensure the worker’s safety.

Packing
Malabar Spices are exported in many different types of packaging including jute bags, bulk cartons and PP bags depending on the product and as per customer requirements. Packaging also requires sturdiness as most of the times these bulk bags and cartons go through many hands before they reach the end-user. For this the packs are made of highest quality materials and are designed attractively.
Packaging our product is done by trained staff to maintain and surpass the required food, hygiene and safety standards. Products also undergo strict quality control monitoring, lot testing and systemised supervision to ensure consistency.

Loading and Despatching
We have recently moved to our new unit in an industrial park located in Central Kerala, which is just 40 km. from the Cochin Port. This helps us immensely as logistics is a very important factor in our trade. Spices have specific shelf life therefore proper stuffing in the container and timely loading on the vessel and subsequent shipment requires close monitoring.
We have in-house loading facility and this enables us to bring the container inside our factory and place our cargo inside the container in the stipulated manner. Proper inspection of the condition of the container, its palletising, paper lining of container insides and silica gel placements are carefully done by our trained staff to ensure that our customers receive their cargo in perfect shape and condition.
